CRCRC put down new dirt in the big building over the New Year's weekend and the track was ready for the Mid-Winter warm-up on January 9th. Mike Piant TQed with his BJ 4X4 to head the 6-car field. The race included three X - 5s, two xxx-4s and Piant's lone BJ.

Piant got away cleanly and held a half-second lead at the end of lap one over second-qualifier Paul Sinclair in his X - 5. Paul cut the lead to less than a tenth of a second at the end of lap two, took the lead on lap three, and was never headed.

So the stage is set for the big race January 16th. A large contingent of Losi and AE factory drivers attended the warm-up race, but none of them entered their wheelers. However, many of the Losi drivers have signed up for the big race, and with the number of entries they have already and the number still expected, we should have a full field on the 16th.
