Paul Sinclair Joins X Factory!

Paul Sinclair is a 22-year old native of Northwest Ohio, currently attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in the PhD. program of Mechanical Engineering, where he is involved with the Formula SAE team. After finishing school, Paul plans to work in the R/C industry. X Factory cars can only get better as our chief engineer becomes better educated! In May of 2007, Paul received his B.S. in Physics with minors in Math and Psychology from Rhodes College, which he attended on a prestigious Department of Homeland Security scholarship grant as one of the top Physics students in the U.S.

Paul began R/C racing in 1996 with a Tamiya Thundershot and graduated to a Losi XX-4 in 1997 -- his first R/C cars were 4WD, and he's been racing the class ever since. He has been the highest-finishing non-sponsored driver at the Hot Rod Hobby Shoot-Out in 2002 and 2003, and the 2003 Cactus Classic. He took second in Sportsman 4WD Mod at the 2003 Losi Race, 6th in 4WD Mod at the 2004 CRCRC Mid-Winter, and finished 6th in 4WD at the 2001 Stock Nats and 3rd at the 2003 Stock Nats, where he TQed a qualifier and won A-2.

2005 was Paul's best R/C season yet, as he took 22nd at the World Warm-up, 52nd at the Worlds, and 23rd at the ROAR Mod Nationals. 2007 was also a fantastic year, particularly the summer, which saw Paul touring Europe. He raced at the Belgium GP – his first race on anything but a dirt track – and qualified 15th on the Astroturf. He met our European drivers and toured some English tracks, including watching the Oswestry BRCA National. As fellow teammate Chris Long puts it, “I met Paul (and Chazz) for the first time in July 2007 for the Belgium GP, after so much time of communicating by phone and email it is great to be able to meet at long last. Paul’s knowledge of car preparation is very vast, there is a lot to be learnt from Paul in the pits and I’m sure there is far more stuff we didn’t chat about. He is also a gentleman on the track and a pleasure to race with. We (the Brits) were expecting his first Astroturf experience to consist of plenty of comedy, but he rea lly did cope great from the start – luckily Dan was at hand to provide the humour…” He also raced at the ROAR nationals in Albuquerque and the Hot Rod Hobbies Shoot-Out in LA. And in his “spare time” our chief engineer was instrumental in the development of the X-5 squared.

Paul designed the X - 5 slipper and idler arrangement, and is the Team expert on X - 5 driveline, but he remembers well being an R/C newbie just a few years ago, and spends much time working with younger drivers. You can ask him any question and Paul will have the answer or tell you where to find it. You can E-mail him paul@4wdrc.com or ask questions on his forum thread. And, of course, Paul wants to meet as many R/C drivers as possible -- please introduce yourself at the track.

Welcome, Paul Sinclair!
